Ultra Violet Visions for the New Year
In 2018 the Pantone Color Institute is lighting the way with a color that communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking; Ultra Violet. With the announcement of this blue-based purple as “the color” for 2018 comes a myriad of design ideas.
While ultra violet may appear to be dramatic, it works incredibly well in the many settings. Ultra violet is the perfect match for raw materials such as concrete, natural wood and blends well with reds, bright greens and yellows.
For the less adventurous, the color can be woven more subtly into elements such as blown glass vases; accent pillows or throws on a sofa; amethyst inspired coasters on a coffee table; a purple canvas in a home office or study; an ornate chandelier or bedside lamp; or as simple as a purple orchid on a kitchen counter.
For the more adventurous, use the ultra violet on larger pieces of furniture such as a sofa, chair, rug, or even drapery against white walls making a fresh statement. Some more dramatic uses of violet will be found on: bedroom headboards; patterned bedspreads, bold wallpaper in bathrooms; painted accent walls; a glass tiled backsplash in the kitchen or in a shower stall.
Purple is considered a regal color and works well in both traditional and contemporary designs, from a Moroccan inspired theme with gold and jewel accents to a modern style with concrete and geometric shapes.
This year purple reigns supreme so don’t be afraid to let Ultra Violet light the way for your design and décor inspiration.
