6 Easy Updates to Create a Spa-Like Primary Ensuite

A trip to the spa is the ultimate way to relax, but regular visits can quickly add up. The good news is that it’s easy to create a spa-like sanctuary right at home. And given that we start and end our day in our ensuites, weaving in a few upgraded elements will go a long way in creating a lavish space that you’ll enjoy spending time in. Read on for six easy and impactful updates.

1. Incorporate Soft Textiles

Nothing says luxury quite like plush textiles, and fortunately, they’re a relatively inexpensive addition that will make your ensuite feel that much more indulgent. Opt for soft and heavy hand and body towels that you’ll look forward to using when washing up.

2. Upgrade Your Lighting to Boost Ambience

The right lighting can set the mood in every room of your home, and in an ensuite, overhead lighting and wall sconces above or on either side of the vanity mirror should cast a soft, relaxing glow. For an added measure of controlled light, install a dimmer — you’ll appreciate it most when you take a long bath.

3. Hang a Mirror that has Flare

To give your bathroom a bit more personality and impart a custom appeal, look for a mirror (or two) with an interesting shape and material. Consider scale as well — larger mirrors will open up your space and help keep the room bright during the day.

4. Paint the Walls in a Soothing Shade

When you think of what makes time spent at the spa so soothing, their use of soft and organic colours may come to mind. When painting your ensuite, let that palette inform your direction; choose a warm white or soft grey for a neutral yet serene envelope, and opt for pale blues and greens for an organic feel.

5. Make Your Vanity a Focal Point

Alongside your shower and bathtub, your vanity is one of the feature elements in your ensuite. Because of its size, it’s worth some TLC — incorporating some greenery, adding a candle or two and placing your counter essentials in uniform dispensers and holders will go a long way in creating an aesthetically pleasing look.

6. Update Your Hardware and Fixtures

Much like in a kitchen, upgraded hardware and fixtures in a bathroom will help pull your space together and make it feel incredibly luxurious. Replace basic pulls, knobs, faucets, towel bars and even shower and tub fixtures with hardware in a contemporary finish and design to create a look with big impact.
