Every year design experts predict the upcoming decor trends for the year ahead. Here are some of the most popular trends you’ll see in interior design this year.
Colour
This year, Pantone named Greenery their colour of the year. This refreshing and revitalizing colour symbolizes new beginnings and a connection to nature. Paint your walls, or invest in décor pieces that will reflect the year ahead. Along with the lighter and airy interior that Greenery provides, the dark purple shade, Shadow from Benjamin Moore is also expected to trend this year. This colour is a rich and royal amethyst tone that fades into a lustrous coal hue. Consider decorating with lighter accents, like gold, as yellow is the complementary colour to a dark purple.
Hardwood
Design trends in hardwood floor also change from year to year, and in 2017, wide planks with cool grey undertones will be the popular go to. Grey tones and lighter natural wood colours tend to make it easier to decorate with as they give you more opportunities for paint colors, furniture, window coverings and throw pillows. The combination of the wide planks and these natural hues will create a more sophisticated design element in your home.
Accents
If you’re looking for accent pieces for a room get ready to say goodbye to beige and hello to jewel tones. Deep opulent colours like emerald green or amethyst purple are what designers are recommending you accent with this year. Consider switching up your pillow shams or pick up some decorative pieces to liven up your surroundings.
Metals
In 2017, we’ll see another big craze — mixed metals. Mixed metals, including; gold, silver and rose gold were a big hit last year but in 2017, copper and brass will be the most popular mixed metals. Find copper or brass geometrics, vases and accessories that will jazz up your space and show off your knack for modern design.
Stone
This year, you may notice the growing popularity of marble. Marble is quickly becoming a huge trend in all areas of the décor industry. Whether you install it in your bathroom as a gorgeous countertop, in your kitchen as a sleek backsplash or a stunning living room table, 2017 is the year to fall in love with marble, both natural and quartz, or composite materials which are easier to maintain.
